ZAKA man (87) kills mourner, wounds three after accidentally reversing relatives car while taking selfie at funeral

In a fast growing ‘atrocious’ trend of foolish selfie taking root in Zimbabwe where we have seen people seriously injured, on Monday, an unlicensed 87 year old man reversed a relative’s car while trying to take a selfie during a funeral wake and knocked down and killed a mourner and injured three others after he accidentally reversed a relatives vehicle while taking a selfie.

The elderly culprit driver named as Toperesu Makwara of Siyawareva Village under Chief Ndanga is reported to have used Liberty Mungana’s car which had its engine running.

It is alleged that his intention was to take a selfie of himself behind the wheel but he put his foot on the accelerator and the vehicle which was engaged in reverse gear shot back, killing a mourner , Patrick Chiro (72) of Chiro Village and wounding three others identified as Zvinei Tapanya (62), Eunice Mubango (40) and Regai Maponga (42) who had all been sitting behind the vehicle. More news to follow.

In the year 2017 alone we had a Manicaland woman who was mauled by a lion after leaning on a lion cage for her lover to take a photo, then a Plumtree youth who was killed by an elephant after a group had driven wild elephants from a bush into an opening for selfies and a man who fell off a rock in Matopos and drowned as he attempted to take a selfie.
It appears when cameras are rolling, all safety flies out of the window, as anyone would realise that in an automatic vehicle if the engine is running and the gear is engaged whether in reverse or drive, it will move as soon as you press the accelerator…..how foolish! By By Sibusiso Ngwenya
